use their neighbor to love them- selves so they can feel like a god— highly praised and affirmed. Your spouse’ s sexual sin was an affront to God and the foundational command to love one another. That is one reason it hurts so bad. Nothing about avoiding threats or being patient with change diminishes this. The reason that these advisements are given is to help ensure that the main thing causing the pain gets the full attention it merits.
