We weren ’ t perfect parents . We sinned against each other . We sinned against our children . We lost our tempers . We became exasperated with our kids . We were lazy at times and put our own needs first . Parenting is sometimes overwhelming , especially when you ’ re dealing with multiple children at once . I found myself having to referee many verbal conflicts . On one occasion , in my haste , I disciplined the wrong child . Afterward , another child ( remember that there were five of them ) came forward with the whole story . I had to humble myself and not just apologize but ask for forgiveness . I had to model what I had taught my girls for years . Thankfully , children are resilient and forgiving . She happily and freely granted me forgiveness . By God ’ s grace , we witnessed the fruit of parental example that day .
