he asked for assistance from his disciples Peter , James , and John ( Matthew 26:37 ). He wanted their presence and their prayers , but they fell asleep and missed the opportunity to share in his suffering . Although they did not accomplish their mission to the fullest , they were with their Teacher because Jesus , in his darkest hour , did not want to be alone . up and join forces with others to avoid repeating their same mistakes . With God ’ s help , may we do so with integrity and determination — with the soul of a godly hero .
Real-world heroes are leaders who accomplish great things and help others do the same , while also accepting help along the way . Leaders who flounder are those who mistakenly set out alone , trying to accomplish everything on their own merits . As they start succeeding or failing , they inevitably move into increasing levels of seclusion , without the assistance needed to win the war within . Yet leadership does not have to be lonely . Fallen leaders regret not doing the soul work needed to sustain a life of victory , and they rue the day they believed they could lead well alone . Sadly , we see it in scandalous falls from some of the highest , most respected leaders in the world . The hero within each of us must rise
