a virtual death sentence . Anyone identified as a Christian is either sent to labor camps or executed immediately , alongside their families . An estimated 50,000 to 75,000 Christians are held in such camps across the country . The Kim regime has created strict laws that punish Christians severely for simply having a Bible . However , even in such a hostile place , we know there is an underground church estimated at 350,000 to 400,000 believers whose hope in Christ is greater than the oppression they live under each day .
2 . Somalia In Somalia , there is no room for Christianity . Converts from Islam , targeted by the Islamic militant group al-Shabab , face the risk of execution upon discovery . Christians also face serious persecution from their family and community . Leaving Islam is seen as betrayal of the family and clan , inviting intense pressure and even death threats . Yet the Somalis that have come to faith in Christ are unrelenting in their conviction and are a force for the gospel .
3 . Libya Amid Libya ’ s ongoing political instability , Christians face grave risks . Much of the country exists in a state of perpetual anarchy — ruled by militias linked to the official government in the West , or by the Libyan National Army in the East — with strong Islamist influences on both sides . There are a few churches in Libya , all of which cater toward migrant communities . The most dangerous activity in Libya for Christians is sharing the gospel with Muslims , which is illegal , yet Christians continue to take the risk .
4 . Eritrea Often dubbed the “ North Korea of Africa ,” Eritrea remains consistently high on the World Watch List , largely due to its authoritarian regime . The government only recognizes three Christian denominations , leaving followers outside these churches at constant risk . There are thought to be 1,000 Christians indefinitely detained in Eritrean prisons not officially charged with anything . Even in the face of imprisonment , the church in Eritrea — though much of it is underground — has not stopped growing and continues to share the gospel .
5 . Yemen Life for Christians in Yemen remains highly dangerous . Yemeni society is deeply rooted in Islam , conservatism and tribalism . Most Yemeni believers hail from Muslim backgrounds , and renouncing Islam can lead to death or exile . Conversion from Islam is prohibited by both Islamic and state law , compelling Christians to conceal their faith to avoid severe consequences such as divorce , loss of child custody , arrest , interrogation or even death . Still , the people continue to meet secretly in underground churches .
