entanglements that we have permitted to enter our lives . So even though you begin to move forward in your spiritual walk , your progress comes to a standstill when the thorns choke the life of the word that is in you . In this parable , Jesus identified three areas of our lives where thorns can grow . In Mark 4:19 Jesus said that the cares of this world , the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things choke the word . Let ’ s take a look at these three in more detail so that we can see how we have possibly become entangled .
The cares of this world include anything that is weighing you down and has your attention more than the word of God . When our thoughts become more consumed with our natural life than our spiritual life , we are in trouble . We begin to worry about how we are going live our life and become successful in the world ’ s eyes instead of putting that in God ’ s hands and bing more concerned about our spiritual growth and success . The truth is that we will be much better at managing our natural lives when have our spiritual lives in order .
The deceitfulness of riches is a greatly misunderstood topic . Jesus was not saying that being blessed financial would be a hinderance to your spiritual growth . It is the deception that financial increase will solve all of your problems that is hinderance . May people think that if they just have a certain level of income that all of their problems will go away . They work towards this goal and make it the most important thing in their lives . The reality is that with financial increase comes increased responsibility and new challenges that you have never faced before . If you are putting your career , your personal comfort and “ getting ahead in life ”
