Northeast Middle School NEMS Students Place at FBLA Competition Four FBLA members at NEMS placed in the District Competition at East Central Community College on February 13. NEMS Students Participate in Band Clinic NEMS students who participated in the recent East Central Mississippi Band Directors Association Band Clinic, pictured at right are: (L to F) Mary Margaret Stevens, Matthew Green, and Lila McMahan. 8 th Grader Named District CTE Student of the Month Northeast Middle School 8 th grader Courtney Bourrage, a student in Sheri Thornton’s Cyber Foundations II class, was recently named the Career and Technical Education Student of the Month for Lauderdale County Schools. Fifth Graders Learn How Humans and Natural Disasters Can Affect the Environment Stacy Purvis’ fifth grade science classes recently learned how humans and natural disasters can affect the environment. Using the Engineering Design Process to identify problems flooding can cause, they researched levees, brainstormed ideas, and created and tested their levees. Students had constraints such as budget and time restrictions to work within. Once the designs were built and tested, each team presented their final levee ideas. 8 th Graders Register for High School Northeast High School Counselor Allyson Wells and NJROTC Senior Chief Kent Malone talked to NEMS 8 th graders recently about the course options available to them for 9 th grade. Students were advised which classes are required and which classes they may choose to take in 9 th grade. After completing their 9 th Grade Course Selection document, students will get signed authorization from their parents to register for those courses.
