Dame Susan Langley is the first female Lord Mayor of London to take the title‘ Lady Mayor’ and LBM was delighted to feature her on the first front cover of the year. Another influential woman leads the way in our March-April issue – Laura Citron, chief executive of London & Partners, the capital’ s agency tasked with creating economic growth. In her article for LBM, she made the point that the world was getting noiser, more complex and more emotionally charged.“ Which makes this exactly the right moment for us to come together – Team London assemble – to speak clearly, confidently, and with a unified voice about the city we love.”

Value of theatre
The arts play a vital role in the both the London and UK economies, generating over £ 10 billion nationally in gross value added in museums, galleries and libraries alone. Soho Theatre’ s roots lie in the 1970s, starting out as a radical theatre with a tiny company. Now it is generally accepted to be without equal as London’ most vibrant producer of new theatre, comedy and cabaret.
|
And not just in central London. Soho Theatre Walthamstow celebrated its first anniversary in May 2026 and is contributing to the outer London economy with a string of renowned artists – Jason Manford, Harry Enfield and Lenny Henry, for example – to attract theatre goers to its 960-seat capacity venue. |

Fourth plinth
The splendid Woman in Blue in Trafalgar Square is LBM’ s last front cover of 2026. What appears on the square’ s fourth plinth has now become perhaps the most famous art commission in the world. Tschabalala Self’ s work represents a contemporary‘ everywoman’, an everyday Londoner walking forward with ambition and purpose. An appropriate way to end the year!
