Those of us searching for the elusive solution to the ever-present clutter ( in both our homes and lives ) have likely watched the 2019 netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo or her more recent series Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo . A Japanese organizing consultant and author of “ The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up ,” Kondo became a cultural phenomenon in the U . s . with the popular netflix series . Creator of the KonMari Method , Kondo advocates for tidying and sorting , leading to less clutter in your physical space and mental and emotional clarity . In one of the episodes , Kondo encourages her clients to hold items in their hands , feel them , and ask whether the item “ sparks joy .” If not , her philosophy is to thank the item and say goodbye . This process is a mindful , introspective one .
What does this have to do with YLD , you ask ? Last year , our Board aimed to “ clean out our YLD closet .” We reevaluated how we always did things and the events
we always hosted ; cleaned out and dusted off the old , and offered many new programs and activities to meet our members ’ need for connection and reestablishment
