If you’re among the many business owners that are seeing what they can do to increase their online presence then you’ve probably run across the term “SEO”.You probably caught it in an article about the top 10 things you can do for your business in terms of marketing or even had someone pester you from a company with “yellow” in their name.

But what exactly is SEO?

This is probably the number one question I get asked when talking with a landscaper for the first time. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, but that still doesn’t tell us what SEO is. Before we can understand it, we have to break down the wording.

A search engine is any kind of platform that allows you to search like Google, Bing, or Yahoo. The engine uses an algorithm to determine what results you will get based on what you typed in.

Because companies like Google are in the business to provide the best search results, they want to provide the most quality answers when a user searches so the user will use the search engine again.

Optimizing for SEO is literally optimizing your business’ online presence utilizing your website to be that “best search result” that sites like Google are looking for.
