5. Suit Canvassing
Canvassing is a thin layer of horse hair that is stitched between the inner and outer layer of a suit jacket. Think of it as the memory foam of suiting. Over time, a full-canvas suit will continue to adapt to your body. Additionally, it allows heat and perspiration to naturally exit your body. Most off the wrack suits do not have a canvas whereby the outer and inner layer of the jacket is glued together. With about two visits to the dry cleaners the glue will begin to deteriorate and you will be left with noticeable bubbles in your suit as a result of air pockets. Always ask if the suit is canvassed.
6. Your Image
At the end of the day, who you are as an individual in terms of your values, characteristics and attributes is what truly makes you unique and an asset to any organization. My business partner first built a career in law based solely on how he was able to communicate his extroverted and direct personality through his attire. By understanding who he was, the context of where he would be working, how that translated into selecting deliberate colours, patterns, and fabrics, while understanding the nuances of fit and canvassing, he was able to build a successful law practice and establish these principles as the foundation of Knight & Grey (www.knightandgrey.com).
