Oxford dictionary defines competition as, ‘the activity or condition of striving to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others.’ We live in a society where competition is inescapable - particularly within the business world. There are so many individuals who fall under the norms of society and fear thinking outside the box. The issue with their actions is they become invisible…they become just another ordinary face that provides the same ideas and thoughts as the next individual. In a society where shadows are casted over you, it is vital to learn how to stand out in such a crowded world.

Take some risks

Who hasn’t heard the name, ‘Mark Zuckerberg’? Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is known to be the youngest self-made billionaire. At the age of 23 he created a company that now has over 2.07 billion monthly active users worldwide. Mark Zuckerberg was keen on taking risks with his famous quote, “The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world that is changing rapidly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.” Taking these words from someone who has built himself up from nothing to become one of the most famous individuals in the world, we can safely assume that taking risks is a major key when entering the business world. Not taking any risks in a world that changes on the daily means that you can fall into the shadows and disappear into the crowd. Taking risks enhances your chances to stand out like all the successful business leaders who took innovative and courageous risks to stand where they are today. They stand out because their companies were created with their creativity, determination and confidence in risk-taking.

Be authentic

There is nothing worse than an individual who is inauthentic, especially within their careers. Many people nowadays lack true authenticity and having that trait, will make you shine. When you’re trying to promote a company, brand or even yourself - you must truly delve in and give it your everything in order to guarantee success. If you lack authenticity, your customers, employers, co-workers etc. will see right through you and individuals may lose credibility which may impact future business relations. If you delve into your career with 100% authenticity, you will be more likely to succeed in it. People want to see you be authentic so they can believe and relate to what you say and how you say it.
