In 2023, Wimmersson initiated the eWeeding program in collaboration with municipalities, green contractors, and railway organizations. The goal was to validate weed control using electricity as an innovative working mechanism, providing a credible and future-proof alternative to chemical herbicides, which are increasingly rejected by society due to environmental and health concerns. eWeeding is a groundbreaking technology that uses electricity as its core mechanism. Its sustainability benefits are substantial: it effectively destroys weeds down to the root system, eliminates the need for fossil fuels, produces no noise pollution, and prevents damage to urban infrastructure. At the same time, it significantly reduces labor requirements while delivering faster and longer-lasting improvements in visual quality.
After three years of professional application, the results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness and environmental value of eWeeding. Two practical cases are outlined below to illustrate these outcomes.
Case 1 – Gutters Challenge Gutters often accumulate organic material, creating ideal conditions for rapid weed growth. With increasingly frequent heavy rainfall due to climate change, this buildup can block drainage systems, leading to a higher risk of localized flooding.
Execution In mid-August 2023, a single treatment was carried out using the eWeeding Roller. Within 12 days, all visible weeds had died. A sweeping operation was then performed to remove organic residues. By the end of October( 70 days after treatment), an inspection showed only limited regrowth from newly germinated weeds.
