LUC ’ S CLAYPITS MASTERPLAN WINS SCOTTISH DESIGN AWARD
LUC has won an award for its Claypits project masterplan in Glasgow at the Scottish Design Awards .
The landscape project focused on the significant potential of the Glasgow canal as a connector between disadvantaged communities , and invigorated an underutilised greenspace to encourage and promote activity , wellbeing and health .
A statement made by the group read : “ The project encompasses the establishment of a Vision , Development Framework and masterplan for the canal corridor between Applecross and Firhill Basins , supported by extensive community participation .”
The group recently promoted 38 members of staff this year , with notable promotions including Mark Fisk and Ed Phillips , who have been promoted to directors of landscape architecture .

APPOINTMENTS
BOYD DOUGLAS-DAVIES TO JOIN HTA BOARD AS VICE-PRESIDENT
The Horticultural Trades Association ( HTA ) has announced that Boyd Douglas-Davies , CEO of Hillview Garden Centres , is to join the HTA board as Vice-President .
A well-known figure in the industry , Douglas-Davies has over 30 years of garden retail experience , and is currently CEO of Hillview Garden Centres . The group consists of 11 garden centres across the midlands .
Developments at the centres include refurbished plant and horticultural departments , along with extended catering and the introduction of hugely successful soft play barns . Further to this he founded Garden Re-Leaf Day and is a Trustee of The Greenfingers Charity .
Commenting on the appointment Adam Taylor , HTA president , said : “ We are delighted to announce Boyd ’ s appointment to the HTA board as vice-president . Boyd has had a long association with the industry and the HTA having served on our Retail Suppliers Committee and Commercial Committee , as well as being a recipient of the HTA Pearson Memorial Medal for outstanding service to the garden industry .

Boyd Douglas-Davies added : “ The HTA plays such a huge part in all aspects of the industry . I am extremely proud to be invited to join the Board and look forward to supporting it to the best of my abilities .”
LANDSCAPE PROJECT
GILLESPIES TO DELIVER A LANDSCAPE VISION FOR ALTON GREEN
Gillespies has been appointed by Redrow to deliver a landscape vision for Alton Green , a high quality residential-led development on the site of the former Alton Estate in Roehampton .
The new development , which is a joint venture between Redrow and Wandsworth Council , will aim to transform the Alton area into a vibrant residential quarter through the introduction of around 1000 new homes , a new library ; a health centre and children ’ s centre , retail areas and improved landscapes and play spaces .
The scheme will also introduce a new village square at the junction of Roehampton Lane and Danebury Avenue .
Gillespies said the proposed landscape vision will look to establish a diverse network of new and improved green streets , cycle paths and footpaths that will both establish “ meaningful connections ” across the development and “ sensitively connect Alton to its wider surroundings ”.
A sequence of open green spaces and play areas will also be created to offer pivotal spaces for social engagement , connectivity and play .
