Environmental charity City of
Trees oicially unveiled the 19
oak trees alongside memorial
seating on Friday 10 November
at Debdale Park Gorton, paying
tribute to those who served their
country in the Great War 1914-
1918 and armed conlicts since.
The event took place
ahead of both Armistice and
Remembrance Day, and formed
part of the WW1 Centenary
Events, which are taking place
between 2014 – 2018, to mark
the 100th anniversary of the First
World War.
Lord Mayor of Manchester
councillor Eddy Newman was in
attendance, as well as members
of the Royal British Legion,
veterans and local residents.
Heroes Wood is located in the
grounds of the historic 45-acre
Debdale Park. The woodland and
memorial seating area have been
designed to provide a place of
relection and contemplation for
all people that have been afected
by war.
At the event the granite
memorial seating was unveiled
with a newly created pathway
leading up to it, framed by
English oak trees. A bugler
heralded the start of a minutes’
silence, with veteran Michael
Phillip Hosker, 50 - who served
in the Royal Army Ordnance
Corp, Royal Logistics Corp (TA),
5 Ordnance Battalion – laying a
poppy wreath alongside a pupil
from Wright Robinson College.
STIHL GB has appointed a new head
of operations to oversee its end-to-
end supply chain as the manufacturer
continues to invest in the future growth
of the company.
Supply chain expert, Paul Brennan,
joins STIHL with experience in leading
supply chain and logistics projects in
the UK and overseas in both fast-
moving consumer goods and retail.
During his career, Brennan has held
positions at renowned organisations
such as Quaker Oats, L’Oréal, Allied
Bakeries, B&Q and Woolworths.
Brennan has also worked with
STIHL previously on a consultancy
basis, project managing a £1.3m
warehouse investment that doubled
throughput, as well as delivering a
STIHL Group initiative into the GB
business, implementing a new IT
platform both internally and into the
Dealer network.
Brennan has been head of operations
on an interim basis for the past year.
Robin Lennie, managing director at
STIHL GB, said: “We are delighted to
have Paul joining the STIHL GB senior
management team. With so many
challenges ahead, such as the growth
of battery technology, developing new
routes to market and a new building
project, this is a very exciting time to be
joining the business and I wish Paul all
the best as he begins his STIHL career.”

MARKED A ‘SELL-OUT
EVENT’
The upcoming 41st BALI
National Landscape Awards 2017
looks set to be a ‘phenomenal
event’, having reached BALI’s full
house capacity.
The British Association
of Landscape Industries’
(BALI) landscaping awards
celebrates the hard work, quality,
commitment and successes
of its members from those
entries submitted this year,
including categories for soft and
hard landscaping, design and
maintenance.
Wayne Grills, BALI’s chief
executive, said: “Following
a milestone ceremony last
December, which saw the
association celebrate 40 years
of the awards in front of just over
960 guests, many in the industry
were left wondering whether
BALI could exceed that total, and
today, that has been achieved.
I am delighted to conirm that
1,000 members, guests and VIPs
have secured their tickets for our
2017 Awards.”
