DEMON INTERNATIONAL
Demon International is one of the leading
manufacturers of high pressure cleaning
products. One of only a few UK companies
actually manufacturing in Britain, it has
been in business for over 50 years.
Their range includes petrol and
diesel machines, as well as the latest
development in LPG.
The company has been working
with councils, local authorities and
contractors for many years and
understands the importance of street
cleaning in the UK. It is a subject high on
local authorities’ policies to ensure that
the community is safe and clean. There
are a whole host of cleaning machines
available but ensuring the most efficient
and cost effect equipment is vital for
council’s resources.
The award winning Hurricane Combi
is one of the machines developed by
Demon. The revolutionary and innovative
machine is the ultimate tool for street
cleaning and is now being used by
customers in the UK and overseas. Since
its launch it has gone from strength to
strength and is now available with LPG
engine to combat emissions.

EBB AND FLOW
Flowform Sculptures allow the water
inside them to move in a variety of
rhythmic flow patterns, one could
describe them as resonant chambers
for water flow as wind instruments are
resonant chambers for air.
Ebb and Flow was recently asked to
help install one north of Aberdeen. The
client was a single mother who had an
adult child with a mental illness at home
and who had a small income from other
care work. She lived on a small holding
on a windswept east facing hillside with
sombre rounded granite mountains to
the north and west. Her intention was to
make the place special and to enable it to
be more supportive to whoever would live
there in the future.
A pond had been extended and water
diverted from a ditch. Five metres of
foundation was already built (her first
bit of blockwork) and we only had to set
up the 12 forms with a little cement and
plumb in the pump to bring the place
to life. With a little help from the local
groundworker, Jock and his JCB our
client will now landscape around with
boulders from the site and a few choice
plants.
This is not the first client we have
met who wanted to make such a deed
of love for the piece of earth entrusted
to their care. The rhythmic water flow
engendered is natural yet it also is lifted
beyond what occurs in nature. The idea
was discovered in 1970 by John Wilkes
and has been developed in many designs
by him and his colleagues since then.
A friend recently described our work
with the Flowforms as creating dynamic
tranquillity, which sums it up rather well.
