Lakeside Village Lakeside August 2018 | Page 9

Chairman’s Report 9 assisted by Gregory Middlewick. As you will see our reserves are in good shape and our budgeting is becoming more and more accurate every year. This is a challenging task as each year presents different challenges we did not see coming. Bad debt is always a concern, but thanks to the team it is only down to about three residents. The directors have been working towards finalising the levy for 2018/2019, at this stage we are estimating a 6% increase effective 1 October 2018, but this will be finalized at the AGM. Social I think we can all agree that Peter and his team have been putting together amazing social events this year, and they just seem to be improving and grow- ing in size year on year. I think events like we have differentiate our estate from others. Unfortunately we had to cancel our Walk around the Dam it just wasn’t possible with all the developments taking place. We had a great new Xmas car- ols evening, for those who attended it was a great new event and I am sure we will be having more exciting events ahead. Developments As you might know, Lakeside and Thornhill joined forces and created a group called the Modderfontein Committee Working Group, and together we were going to take on the developers in the area, starting with Nevada. After many meetings with JRA, Nevada and our ward councillor Bongani Nkomo, I feel that we were able to make some leeway into the changes that were coming and try and get some benefit to the village. There were somethings that we have object- ed to on multiple levels, don’t know who Nevada are connected to but it really feels that they just carry on regardless and develop as they like without listen- ing to the Estates that will support them, Our ward councillor, or even to the building inspector or Johannesburg council who had issued cease to desists. We will still continue our fight, unfortunately I feel that we have tried, but we have not succeeded here, and ultimately we can only hope that the shopping centre opens quickly and the developers leave the area. Special mention to Kimbal Mare and Bongani who have been fighting the fight from the beginning and we could not have gotten to where we are without their help against Nevada. Erf 11 Many thanks to all the home owners who assisted and took the time to fill out the applications for objections against the development on our boundary. ...Continued
