Family Education The Lake Forest Collabora- ti ve for Environmental Lead- ership is comprised of: • The City of Lake Forest • Lake Forest Open Lands Associati on • Lake Forest College • School Districts 67 and 115 One of the main goals of the LFCEL is to promote the awareness of environmental concerns locally. Each issue of the quarterly Dialogue will feature informati on on an environmental topic. Stop Idling, Start Saving! Idling is running a vehicle engine when it’s not moving or operati ng. While someti mes hard to avoid, idling is harmful and wasteful. It pollutes and threatens health. Burning gasoline and diesel fuel emits: • parti culate matt er, a leading cause of heart and lung disease • ozone, which can damage lungs and • carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Unnecessary idling is costly. An idling car wastes up to 1/2 gallon of gasoline per hour, and trucks waste even more. While individual episodes may be small, the cumulati ve impacts of idling are large. Residents are encouraged to turn off vehicles when parked and not traveling. Together, we can improve Lake Forest’s air quality. The City of Lake Forest established an Idling Manage- ment Policy for its vehicles and equipment in 2016. Tradition Philanthropy The City’s Electric Aggregation Program Continues to be Monitored At this ti me, in conjuncti on with the North Shore Electric- ity Aggregati on Consorti um (NSEAC), the City has opted to conti nue to idle its electric- ity aggregati on program due to unfavorable commodity pricing. Commonwealth Edison’s (ComEd) supply rates remain highly competi ti ve within the current market. All aggregati on eligible Lake Forest electricity accounts are currently supplied by ComEd unless a third party supplier has been contracted by individual account holders. The NSEAC conti nues to moni- tor electricity co mmodity pricing, and should electricity supply rates become more favorable than those off ered by ComEd, the City will look into an agreement and residents will be noti fi ed accordingly. As always, residents who wish to enter into indi- vidual contracts with third party electric suppliers may do so. While the City does not make recommendati ons on suppliers, the Illinois Commerce Commission has created pluginillinois.org as the State’s offi cial website to assist residents in comparing uti lity supply prices and off ers from retail electricity suppliers.
