WITH MY OWN TWO HANDS DOCUMENTARY SCREENING GALA The Laguna Beach-based With My Own Two Hands Foundation raised more than $ 252,000 , breaking the previous record , at its ninth annual red carpet documentary screening and gala on Aug . 27 at the New Port Theater in Corona del Mar . Money raised at this event — hosted by ESPN “ SportsCenter ” anchor Stan Verrett and attended by about 140 supporters — will go to providing clean water and sustainable agriculture programs to benefit 20,000 people in Kenya . Attendees were treated to dinner and the world premiere screening of the organization ’ s newest short documentary , “ The Women of Kibera .” The film features Veronica , a mother , small-business owner and member of the Kipawa women ’ s group , who shows how clean water and determination — with the help of WMO2H — has helped to spur economic empowerment in her community . Also at the event , Brian Janssen , a WMO2H board member and senior manager at Capital Group , was honored with the foundation ’ s Water Advocate Award . A live auction and pledge donations also helped support the organization , led by founder and CEO Lindsey Pluimer , which works to provide access to clean water , healthy food and income-generating opportunities in East Africa , with plans to expand to other parts of the world .
