Nation, which necessitated an evacuation of County
residents in the Glenevis area in May. This event, and
the other activations of 2016, led the Emergency
Management Agency to further develop the
Emergency Response Plan for Lac Ste. Anne
County, with specific attention to Emergency Social
Services requirements.
Emergency Social Services — sometimes referred to
as ESS — provides for the emotional and physical
needs of individuals and families affected by an
emergency or disaster. ESS services can include
everything from lodging, food and clothing to pet
services and donation coordination. Because these
are the services provided directly to people in need,
it’s vital that planning and training are in place when
emer gency situations arise. To date, the County has
trained nearly a dozen ESS specialists to respond
in this area of emergency management. The group
continues to focus on the development of a detailed
emergency social services plan for the community.
Personal preparedness is a vital part of planning for
an emergency, and a part that you can do yourself.
Residents are encouraged to review information
on how they can prepare their family for a disaster.
Preparation and planning should be completed now
to ensure that in an emergency all residents have
the supplies and plans to protect themselves and
their families. More information on how to prepare
for an emergency can be found at aema.alberta.ca/
personal-emergency-preparedness.
Whether you work for Lac Ste. Anne County or the
County works for you, thank you for the role you play
in making this region so remarkable.
