Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Retail is converting some of its big hypermarkets into
wholesale cash-and-carry stores, in an apparent sign of modern retail's inability
to effectively take on neighborhood stores in India.
Tesco proposal to invest in Trent Hypermarket gets DIPP nod
The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has approved
Tesco's application to invest in Tata-owned Trent Hypermarket, paving
the way for the clearance of the first foreign investment proposal in
multi-brand retail by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) at
its upcoming meeting on Monday.
Flipkart plans to sell white goods, furniture
India's largest e-commerce player, Flipkart, will start selling big-ticket
items like furniture, large-sized white goods and electronics products along
with introducing a private label for apparel.
Danish company Bestseller may file for multi-brand retail
Denmark-based fashion house Bestseller may soon apply for entry
into India's multi-brand retail segment. Bestseller owns the
brands Jack & Jones, Vero Moda and Only, which it sells in India
through franchisee partner Bombay Rayon Fashion.
