“Surfaces” therefore raises an essential aspect of Tunisian identity : a multifaceted country,
a place where illogicality is natural and inspires many artists.
Born in 1981 in Aubonne, Matthieu Gafsou studied photography at Vevey School of Applied
Arts. His career starts in 2006 with personal and collective exhibitions in Europe and in the
United States. Awarded in 2009 by the HSBC Foundation prize for photography, he teaches
since then at the Higher School of Arts in Lausanne. The collection Surfaces appears in
an eponymous book published by Matthieu Gafsou, also author of the monographs Alpes
and Sacré. I
