People often don ’ t understand how much work small businesses put into getting just a few contracts .” Despite the challenges , the company survived and continued pursuing public works contracts again . Ladan connected with the Los Angeles regional Contractor Development and Bonding Program ( CDABP ) after being referred by her business coach . She has since attended CDABP workshops and has received assistance from staff in getting bonding and increasing her company ’ s bonding capacity .
Though being a woman in the design and construction industry may initially be greeted with raised eyebrows and resistance , Ladan ’ s expertise and dedication soon win over even the most recalcitrant . “ In general , men do not like being told what to do by a woman ,” she shares . “ However , I am not here to prove myself to anyone – I just want to get the job done right the first time , so my focus is on complying with all laws and regulations . Once they see how hard I work and that my skills and experience can help them do their jobs more effectively , then they develop respect for me and come to me to solve any design or construction challenges they are facing .”

solutions to complex challenges is one facet of Ladan ’ s work that she loves . For example , when an electrical engineer needed to lay new conduit to the transformer for a lighting repair project at Exposition Park , Ladan found a way to use horizontal boring instead of trenching , which got the project done much faster . “ For public works and commercial projects , it ’ s important to have the level of sophistication and self-sufficiency that Redesign Group offers ,” she remarks . “ As a boutique-style company , we also handle every project as if it is our only project , so we deliver timely and effective results .”
