EDITOR'S LETTER
Issue Ten - Summer 2017
Dear readers,
It is with immense pride that we welcome you to this new edition of La Civetta. Our highly-dedicated team, boosted by the arrival of new Erasmus students, has greatly enjoyed putting together this issue for you. In this edition, we’re looking ahead to the summer, taking you on a trip around the beautiful Italian peninsula, and in particular opening your eyes to the Mezzogiorno, Italy’s South.
The various sections of the magazine will cover the hottest destinations, but also the hottest topics. As ever, we will be casting an eye over what’s been happening here at the School of Modern Languages, and in a brand-new section, we will be focusing on “My time in Italy”: not only our students’ fabled Third Year Abroad, but also suggestions for trips off the beaten track and discovering new sides to our beloved Boot from a wide range of perspectives.
The array of suggestions and talking points is not limited to geography and culture, but also music, art, and, as you would expect, food and gastronomy. You will also find a small, exclusive corner of Italy which has recently opened in the heart of Bristol: the “Taste of Napoli” Bar & Restaurant in Broadmead offering the unmistakable flavours of Italy.
All contributions are from students at the University of Bristol, Italian students who are here on their Erasmus, and also from us, the Italian Department interns. We are excited to share with you our final contribution to what has been a wonderful experience, as we depart for Italy and bequeath the future of the magazine to our successors.
It has been an absolute pleasure collaborating with such a creative and dedicated group of staff and students. Our heartfelt thanks go out to each and every one of you.
Bristol, and this experience, will always be a part of us.
