summer food festivals

It is that time of year again: cooking ourselves blue on the pebbly shores of England, ice-lollies dripping down our chins and an ominous cloud of smoke blanketing the skies. Yes, I am talking about barbeque season. It is a known fact that Britons are undefeated when it comes to making the most of these summer months, but how do the Italians approach it?

When they are not taking refuge behind shuttered windows, hiding from the occasionally excruciating heat and blinding sunlight, they have numerous food festivals available to them for hours of aimless entertainment and culinary delight. So if you do happen to find yourself in Italy this summer, void of anything to do (admittedly an unlikely event), then consider visiting one of these carefully selected food/wine festivals. You never know, you may find something that will take your fancy and tickle your taste buds.

Montespertoli, Tuscany – June 1st – The Chianti Wine Festival

Chianti is a grape used to make red wine; the excessive tannins give it a full bodied and luxurious flavour. In celebration of this marvellous grape, there is an ever so appropriate day of drinking wine. What’s not to love?
