LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
Dear readers,
We are happy to present to you our brand new issue of La Civetta!
La Civetta’s aim is to bring a little piece of Italy to Bristol. For this issue we had the chance to work with a great team of journalists and students who provided some very interesting articles about what’s going on in the Italian Department, their personal experiences in Italy, their opinions on the most important recent events and, also, some classic pieces about the most heartfelt Italian traditions.
In this issue, we mostly focused on the Northeast of Italy, an area full of character. From the Trieste Film Festival which the University of Bristol has had the pleasure of collaborating with, seen through the eyes of our reporters, to the discovery of romantic Venice by our Year Abroad students, not overlooking the appetising food tradition of the two cities, which will give you a virtual taste of the amazing Italian specialties.
But this north-eastern tour will not forget the most relevant events happened in other Italian cities: among them, the very Italian Festival di Sanremo, a musical kermesse taking place every year in Liguria that brings families from all over Italy together to watch it on TV. We had a look at the
winner and his controversial song and in addition to that, we have provided you with a playlist
that unites old and new Italian hits.
La Civetta’s eyes could not miss the forefront of sporting events (quite hot topics in Italian conversations) encompassing football, rugby, cycling, to satisfy the curiosity of every
reader.
We feel very proud of having worked with this team and we hope to keep
collaborating over the next few months to publish another issue. We would like
to thank every member of this fantastic team along with all the staff of the
Department of Italian, for providing invaluable help and constant
motivation!
Let La Civetta lead you through this fantastic journey through the
“Boot”!
Enjoy!

Before you read this introductory letter, we would like to bring to light that right after the launch of this new issue we were struck by the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of our most brilliant students, Elsa Scaburri, also an active member of our Club Italia. We would like to dedicate this issue of La Civetta to her memory.
