IL DIPARTIMENTO
interview with
zaki dogliani
La Civetta caught up with 4th year Italian & Politics student, and editor of Bristol’s student newspaper Epigram,
Zaki Dogliani. Zaki is half-Italian (of Torinese origin) and
split his year abroad between Palermo and Naples. We
chatted with him about all things Italy and Bristol:
What’s the basis for your interest in Italian?
I’ve always been interested in Italy and loved being there, the people, the culture, the food, the history… not so much the politics
but we’ll come onto that. It’s always been the ideal “other” place.
You obviously came in with quite a high level of Italian already.
How did you find the degree and the department?
I did come in with a relatively high level orally but I’d never
done that much writing or grammar. Honestly – and I’m not just
saying this because it’s La Civetta – I do feel more attached to
Italian as a subject and as a department than Politics. Partly down
to the brilliant lecturers I’ve had and partly, to go back to the first
question, how much I love Italy and am interested in Italian.
