Letter from the Editor

Welcome to the first issue of La Civetta for the 2015/2016 academic year; it is with great pleasure and that I invite you to read the fruits of our team’s hard work. In this edition, we have a great selection of articles, interviews, reviews and opinion pieces, all prepared and written by students of Italian. I am also delighted to welcome the work of our design team, this year consisting of five enthusiastic and energetic first year students, whose commitment and help has simply been invaluable.

I remember when La Civetta launched back in my second year. Flicking through the web pages of the magazine, as beautiful back then as it is today, I was straightaway carried off into the wonderful world of Italy and all that it offers us. Since that time, the magazine has gone from strength to strength. It is a brilliant resource for anyone interested in the Italian world, and I hope that students and teachers have been able to benefit from it over the last few years as much as I have.

Since taking over as Editor of this fantastic magazine, I have had the good fortune of meeting a wonderful and supportive group of students and tutors alike, and I am indebted to all of them for their help in making this issue what it is. In particular, I am extremely grateful to the staff of the Italian department for their continued support and advice. I also wish to thank all the students who have worked so hard on this issue - from contributing writers to those within our editorial and design teams. Most excitingly, though, I am delighted to announce that this issue marks the start of a new partnership between La Civetta and the Italian Cultural Centre of Bristol. This exciting initiative is based in Bristol and run by Mariapia Tropepe and Cristina Orlando, and brings both Italian and local communities together through its varied programme of cultural events. Turn to pages 28-29 for further details.

Enjoy!
