LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
Dear readers,
It is with greatest pleasure that we present to you this new edition of La Civetta magazine. This year is the 50th anniversary of 1968, a year of deep political and economic changes, which influenced both positively and negatively the development of the western world. There’s no better time than now in our opinion to think about the political fights of the past in order to become more aware of our present and of how our past has made us who we are nowadays. With the world, Europe and Italy on the edge of the worst economic crisis of the last fifty years there are two opposing tendencies: on the one hand there are the populists like Matteo Salvini and on the other hand there are politicians like Domenico Lucano who fight to create new places shared by people from different cultures. Despite this issue’s focus on politics, we did not ignore other aspects of the Italian culture which are famous all around the world such as: art, fashion, food, cinema and some of the treasure troves that you should visit if you have the chance to explore Italy. It is with deepest sadness that we acknowledge Bernardo Bertolucci’s death. He was an Italian director, screenwriter and film producer whose films include Last Tango in Paris, The Conformist and The Last Emperor. He is the only Italian in the world who has won an Oscar for best director. In the next editions you will read some articles about him and his works. The main question we pose in this edition is are we really courageous enough to challenge our origins, our present, our limits, by facing up to reality and reminding ourselves that this reality is not made of polarities, but of thousands of different facets. These are not always easy to accept, but are the precious foundation of a new world, where cultural integration does not just mean simple peaceful coexistence, but means sharing the will to fight for a better world united together.
We thank all our team for their passionate work.
Enjoy!
Elisabetta and Will
