how to
rise and shine
10am: As it’s Day 2, a welcome change to the typical cornetto e caffè al bar is Coromandel (Via monte Giordano 60/61) for a sweet or savoury sit down breakfast.
local flea market
11am: Peruse the trinkets, pottery and jewellery at a Roman flea market. Visit Porta Portese market on Via Poruense (every Sunday morning) for any last-minute souvenirs – bartering is all part of the experience!
village life
1pm: Not far from Porta Portese, explore Trastevere neighbourhood’s cobbled streets. Here, you’ll be transported to a calmer, village-like atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy a meal in one of the countless local restaurants.
hidden fantasy
4pm: Hidden behind the busy streets of Quartiere Trieste, you’ll discover the hidden ‘fantasy’ district: Quartiere Coppede. With a mix of historical art styles, there’s plenty to take in.
alternative neighbourhood
6pm: San Lorenzo, labelled Rome’s ‘Camden town’ can be found just south-east of Stazione Termini. Soak up the atmosphere sipping on an aperitivo at the many café pop-ups, amongst a whole host of both local and international students. Enjoy a Peroni for as little as a euro and take in the ‘festinos’ (street parties) later on into the night.
il re della pizza
8pm: A trip to Rome wouldn’t be complete without Pizza and it has to be eaten at Da Giggetto (he is the king of pizza after all).
gelato all’italiano
10pm: After seeing the Colosseum lit up, enjoy some gelato in Piazza Madonna dei Monti (in the Monti district) - the pistachio gelato is a firm favourite at Fatamorgana.
discovery by night
Midnight: Save renowned Trevi fountain for night time when the hordes of tourists have retreated back to their hotels. Not only will it be a more magical end to your trip, but you might succeed in getting some tourist-free photos!
