48 HOURS IN ROMA

wake up to the aromea

10am: Start your trip with Italy’s best export: coffee. What better place than Caffè Tazza d’Oro, well-known for their coffee of course, but also for their granita di caffè con panna, which is popular amongst locals.

feline friends

11am: Surprisingly, Rome is home to 300,000 cats who mostly live outside, and most of them can be found at Largo di Torre Argentina - Rome’s own cat sanctuary, open daily from noon till 18:00

eat with a local

1pm: What better way to truly get the Roman experience than to share it with a local? Website BonAppetour gives visitors the chance to arrange a meal with a local Roman, be it grabbing a slice of pizza from a hidden pizzeria, or having an aperitivo at a vibrant bar filled with locals.

riches of Rome

3pm: Get a glimpse into the life of Roman luxe at Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini, home to several lavish ancient Roman villas, which are all underground.

through the keyhole

5pm: The secret keyhole (or not so secret judging by the queues) is found on Mount Aventine. In the Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta you’ll find a large door, look through the keyhole there and you’ll find a surprise!

passami l’olio

8pm: Located near the Vatican, reserve a place at Guilio passami l’olio, a place decked out with vintage décor and a menu full of authentic Italian dishes, and cheese and charcuterie platters. Pair them with a choice of no less than a thousand wines. Jazz, rock and soul concerts take place on Tuesdays.

views from above

10pm: Climb up Gianicolo Hill and, by day, listen out for the cannon that fires every single day since the battle of Rome was won here, or, by night, admire the twinkling lights and striking views of the city below.
