GIARDINO DI BOBOLI

Giardino di Boboli is one of the most expansive gardens and is held within the heart of Florence. If you want serenity, this place has it. Holding sculptures, fountains, la Grotta Grande and the Palazzo Pitti, the Giardino di Boboli is the perfect way to spend a warm afternoon in Florence, wandering around the gardens and relaxing after climbing the stairs of the Amphitheatre, which lead to Neptune’s Fountain. There is an entrance fee, yet the garden is perfect to wander around in and is highly recommended.

PIAZZA SANTO SPIRITO

With a great atmosphere in the evenings, situated down a side street from the Palazzo Pitti, this quaint square has some of the best gelaterias, pizzerias and bars in Florence. Filled with local artisan shops, plenty of colour, the Church of Santo Spirito and many local artisan shops this place has it all, including farmers’ market’s on Sundays. One piece of advice: don’t just take pictures of this church, go inside, it’s incredible!

GO TO THE SPIAGGIA SULL’ARNO IN SUMMER

Relaxing and picturesque, many tourists don’t come here, but I’d definitely recommend it. During the summer, the Spiaggia organises ‘Music at Sunset’ on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays - a perfect way to relax whilst looking out over the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. There are a few bars and restaurants, particularly near the terrace of Piazza Poggi, ideal if you’d like to escape the bustling streets of central Florence.

PIAZZA DELLA SIGNORIA

This is the main square in Florence, which has many sculptures and a great view of Palazzo Vecchio overlooking it. In the square there is David once again, said to be placed outside the Palazzo Vecchio to symbolise the Republic’s defiance of the Medici family. The square also holds the Galleria degli Uffizi, which has queues often filling the square! Somewhere not to miss out on, but book tickets in advance!
