A CHAT WITH our FOURTH YEARS...
Did you make any awkward language barrier mistakes?
Ivana: There weren’t as many as I thought there would be but I once confused Lampedusa (the island) and Lampredotto (a traditional Tuscan dish made from cow stomach...) in quite a serious conversation.
Hattie: Not that I can remember.
What was your most memorable moment?
Ivana: A street party on the Ponte Vecchio, with all the ateliers and shop owners dancing with us.
Hattie: My most memorable moment was going to the AC Milan vs. Juventus game.
What did you find helped you learn Italian more, working/studying or your social life?
Ivana: Probably my social life. You have to really persist with Italians in speaking the language however, as they all want to practice their English. I also learnt lots of Tuscan/Florentine slang this way too!
Hattie: Definitely my social life.
Did you travel outside the city you were living in at all, and if so where? Would you recommend it?
Ivana: When it was hot enough we used to go to the beach at Viareggio, and in the winter months we went to see different Tuscan towns. Lucca and San Gimignano were my favourite ones, which are both beautifully quaint and typically Tuscan.
Hattie: I tried to travel every weekend. The best place in Italy I went to was Rome. I would absolutely recommend travelling as much as you can.
