This approach really elevates the accessibility of this film for me , explanations in both the original Italian and the translated English really enlighten and inform you of the challenges at the time . This aspect also highlights the absurdity of misogyny in the idea that women could not have power over their own bodies . The interview style of this documentary really imbues one with that same passion for change that these women themselves had . Yet , despite the oftendarker tones and heavier themes that are present throughout this film , the collective joy and humorous anecdotes that these women share with us bring light , and more than that , hope .

The power of Melmaridè is not just the importance of sharing these women ’ s stories , it is how they all , however different , remain united through their experiences . It is not a documentary which needs to hide behind excessive cinematography , it is a personal and authentic portrayal of the power of sisterhood and the strength that comes from community . A documentary made by women , made about women , and yet made for everyone . Melmaridè is an informative , thought-provoking and engaging documentary ; I can only consider it necessary , if not compulsory viewing for all .
