ANNUAL REPORT 2019 YEAR IN REVIEW Chair and CEO’s Report KU 20 19 As we reflect on KU’s journey throughout 2019, it would be remiss of us not to acknowledge that we are sharing this reflection at a time when KU, like the rest of the world, is facing unprecedented change due to the Coronavirus COVID-19. This global pandemic is a poignant reminder of how important it is to stay true to the values of the organisation and do what we can to ensure KU’s sustainability, and to acknowledge the efforts of our Board, staff, families and our community in staying connected and effective throughout this challenging time. 2019 marks the final year of an ambitious three-year Strategic Plan ‘Creating, Thinking and Doing for today and tomorrow’. This annual report presents both a demanding and rewarding period of success and transformation on KU’s journey, delivering the Strategic Plan 2017- 2019. The Strategic Plan had five key objectives: engaged stakeholders; a sustainable, scalable business model; social policy and investment; achieving excellence; and producing knowledge with specific targets for each of these objectives. Throughout 2019, KU’s Board and Executive team have continued to demonstrate a values-based and cohesive approach to the leadership and management of the organisation and are immensely proud of what KU has achieved over the three-year period. The results reinforce the strategic vision and consolidate KU as one of Australia’s leading providers of early childhood education and care (ECEC) over our long and rich 124-year history.
