LEADING THE WAY EXCELLENT KU NQS 1 % SECTOR NQS 0.3 % 30 % EXCEEDING MEETING WORKING TOWARDS 86 % SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT REQUIRED 12 % 50 % 1 % 20 % 0 % 0.1 % Kathy pioneered the ‘Pay it Forward’ program, which involved volunteer families being recruited to welcome new families as part of the orientation process. Rethinking the tenants of orientation proved effective in building relationships amongst new families, as this provided an informed and trusted resource for questions and queries beyond the centre staff. Existing families proved invaluable as advocates for the work and pedagogy that defined KU Chatswood Community Preschool and the willing participation of current families to support new families became integral to the changing face of orientation and foundational relationships. Rosanne has progressed and demystified educational practice in her advocacy and development of environmental citizenship and ecological awareness. KU Ourimbah Preschool and Children’s Centre strives to give visibility to the creative and inventive endeavours of children that honours the complexity of family life and supports the engendering of these experiences into the culture of the service. Rosanne and her team give a voice to children’s narrations, their theory making and reflexivity and their communications and metaphors for meaning, and in this way, help to build self-belief and an understanding of the potential of ideas. We are exceptionally proud of Kathy and Rosanne for their innovation and high-quality teaching, and together they exemplify KU’s commitment to excellence. Similarly, the recognition of KU Phillip Park’s Bonnie Te Ara Henare as a recipient of the prestigious 2019 Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) New Voice Scholarship is a testament to the generation of new and emerging talent within KU. KU was awarded Employer of Choice for the fourth consecutive year by the Australian Business Awards, showcasing the commitment we have to providing and supporting excellence for our teams. Excellence is embedded throughout the KU culture; it is what motivates us to provide exceptional quality programs and services for our families and children. As we look ahead to next year, we look forward to continuing to make the KU Difference for Australian families and achieving excellence in all that we do. KU 20 19 KU Centre Directors Rosanne Pugh, Kathy Hatcher and Bonnie Te Ara Henare (L-R) have been recognised for delivering and influencing excellence in early education. 9
