ANNUAL REPORT 2019 SUSTAINABLE, SCALABLE BUSINESS MODEL Investing in our future “KU continues to expand its development of important resources to keep abreast of issues in the sector.” KU 20 19 KU is a diverse organisation of size and complexity, and after almost 125 years, KU remains proudly notfor-profit within an increasingly commercialised sector. With this in mind, key to planning and growing for the future is both our financially sustainable business model; and our commitment to reinvesting surplus in our quality programs for children, in our staff, and in making a difference where it matters most. In 2019, KU expanded our broad network of infrastructure by investing heavily in capital works and IT. This has enabled KU to also provide expanded support to centres and services in need. In addition, KU was able to achieve growth in our portfolio of services with the purchase of three new sites at Maidstone, Newport and Heidelberg in Victoria, and in NSW, with the establishment of two new CBA centres, Honey Bird and The Nest, and the opening of KU Ashmont in Wagga Wagga. KU is also committed to a renovation of Central Office in Sydney to improve efficiencies as well as enhance collaboration and connection amongst staff. We are confident that this diversified approach will support sustainable growth in the years ahead. KU prides itself on continuous development and empowerment of staff through professional learning and research opportunities. In 2019, KU attended the ELAA conference in Melbourne, as well as two Inclusion exhibitions and the ECA National Conference in Tasmania, and delivered a series of events, workshops and webinars for staff in both Victoria and NSW. During 2019, there were more than 3,500 internal registrations to attend KU’s Professional Learning programs, as well as over 2,000 external registrations, reinforcing that these programs provide enormous benefits to staff in terms of increasing their knowledge and skills, and supporting their career progression. 10
