People are different
My partner Dana couldn’ t come to Basauri, so I asked some german students what was the most surprising thing about the Basque Country, and they said that it was people.
People here are very open-minded and helpful and they are all very nice and kind with people they don’ t know. Their feeling is that everyone knows everyone and all of us are friends. However, german people are a bit distant at first, and not so open-minded, but anyway they are kind and honest. If you know them better, they are very crazy and funny. The main difference is that germans don’ t show how they really are to everybody, only to people they know and trust.
They were surprised that here people shout anywhere they are, at home, in the school, in the street, with friends …, while german people only shout in private, at home with their families.
Something that was strange for her was punctuality. In Germany, if they are going to meet at 6pm they arrive at the place where they are going to meet at 6pm. In the Basque Country, if they are going to meet at 6pm, they leave home at 6pm, and they always arrive late.
