Learning and Growing Together : KPC Buddhist Giving Garden Grows Food , Connection , and Community

Started with seed money from the CARES Act during the pandemic , KPC ’ s Buddhist Giving Garden educates and empowers people to grow food . The organically grown vegetables are offered to community partners such as the Poolesville Little Free Pantry , WUMCO Help , the UpCounty Hub , Shepherd ’ s Table , and Miriam ’ s Kitchen to serve the growing numbers of people experiencing food insecurity . The garden receives consistent care through all four seasons , as volunteers work and learn together weekly .
Willing hands and hearts of all ages come together to make a difference . Connecting in community to serve others nourishes volunteers and food recipients alike .
The bountiful harvest includes nutrient dense foods such as sweet potatoes , chard , and kale . Our community partners tell us that the recipients especially appreciate receiving fresh produce to supplement the boxed and canned goods that are the usual components of food bank offerings .
