through. She lived with her stepmother and she had ulcer due to the fact that she
was fed only once a day. The girl really went through some difficult times.
So when she narrated her story I was challenged. I felt the need to help her
and other people who are going through similar hardships. So my inspiration was
drawn from the girl’s story.
Korzandos: What project will you consider most significant since Frontline took
flight?
Joseph Yankera: I consider the start of Frontline foundation the most sig-
nificant because starting such an organization is not an easy thing. It was very
challenging. We have had some great achievements though. I’ll make mention of
the girl whose story led to the start of this foundation. She is now in Senior High
School and her ulcer is being treated by doctors.
Yet, like I said earlier, the most significant is the start of the foundation.
Korzandos: Interesting...! What are your sources of funds for helping the less
privileged?
Joseph Yankera: For now what we do is to look at the beneficiaries’ situation
and figure out how to raise funds for the person. We also give the public the chance
to contribute whatever they can to help these people. We go to churches and also
have anonymous contributors who also help.
Looking into the future, we want to create sustainable source of funds so we
aim to introduce other businesses to fund the frontline foundation projects. So
that is what lead to the introduction of the 16 years group of companies.
Korzandos: Any worrisome challenge so far, I mean a time when you wanted to
give up?
Joseph Yankera: There have been so many challenges. We have had situa-
tions where the people we want to help constantly call us more times than they
probably should because we have delayed in giving them help. Sometimes we rely
on benefactors and they also are sometimes unable to come through for us when
we need them. Challenges have been around since we started but there has never
been and never will be a time where we would want to give up.
