Documentary on Pope Francis Brother Daniel Torchia “Help that poor lady. Recite your prayers later.” – Jorge Mario Bergoglio Supreme Council enriches the Order, Church and world with documentary on Pope Francis Heard a moving sound bite from Pope Francis lately? I’m tempted to believe the entire world would answer “yes” to the question. And that’s good. It’s certainly a boost to our Church’s ability to ‘connect’ with millions, especially through mass media. Short and frank digestible messages work well in our media-rich, time-squeezed popular culture. It may be the best way for us to cast a wide net and begin the process of The New Evangelization. And there’s the point we need to remember: These sound bites merely scratch the surface. While they may rule airwaves, social and traditional media, there’s a much richer story that is begging to be shared with each bite. What can we do to help people understand the depth of Francis’ teachings, joy and faith? A good starting point is to help people learn more about Jorge Mario Bergoglio himself, the man behind the sound bites, through one of the most accessible mediums available to us: television. FRANCIS: THE POPE FROM THE NEW WORLD Late last year, Supreme Council announced the launch of a new documentary on the life of Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Now a bestseller, the documentary retraces the achievements, challenges and key moments from the life of the boy, young priest, bishop, cardinal and now first pope from the New World. Though the music is inspiring, the scenery breathtaking and script easy to understand, the documentary finds its greatest value in the documented actions of Bergoglio over the years. It portrays a person who has consistently applied charity and love for others at all cost with poise and open arms, but also with a conviction and clarity for what is right and just. Watching it has given me a moving example of how I can and ought to live my life of service to others. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS ONLINE BULLETIN 24 APRIL 2014
