TOP 15 TIPS FOR COUNCILS
During our Deputy Director Installation in July,
I was asked to put a few words together to list
some of our practices that may have helped achieve
the successes we did last year. During the past year,
through the efforts of our members, our membership
increased by 212.5% and our Bingo attendance
increased by approximately 30 % while our monthly
fundraising dinners saw an average increase of 25%.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE CHANGES WE MADE:
1. The Grand Knight always greeted everyone
arriving and thanked everyone leaving our KofC
Bingo events;
2. The Grand Knight always greeted everyone at
some point during the evening suppers hosted by
the KofC and made sure they were happy with the
service and the food. Any constructive criticism was
appreciated and corrective action was taken rapidly;
3. The Council developed coloring books with a
monthly theme (e.g. Easter, Christmas, etc...) and
gave them out along with crayons for the children
to color during the fundraising suppers to keep them
occupied while their parents enjoyed their meals
and good company;
4. All of our events were posted on the local
TV community channel;
5. All members of the Council attending a
parish event – hosted by the KofC or not – were
encouraged to wear their council golf shirt so they
could be easily identified and answer any questions
people may have had about the KofC and the
Council;
6. At every event, the Grand Knight addressed
the crowd, thanked his volunteers and announced
the next upcoming event so that everyone knew what
the KofC were doing and could plan their calendars
accordingly;
7. We always had extra copies of our monthly
newsletter on hand that we handed out to
prospective candidates to read and learn about
our Council;
8. We always tried to include photos of KofC
hosted events published in our monthly bulletin.
Often, this resulted in some parishioners wanting
copies of our monthly bulletin and we obliged;
9. The Grand Knight always had membership
forms on his person at every parish event;
