th September, 2014 witnessed another
successful, annual International Business
conference, PANGEA 2014 at SIMSR. Taking
forward the purpose of IBS@SIMSR to bring
education and industry together to enrich the
students through interaction with senior and
competent company executives, this flagship event
brings various industry experts together on one
platform to address and interact with the SIMSR
Students and provides the unique opportunity to
learn from the Industry stalwarts. The event was
graced by the presence of our Director Dr. Satish
Ailawadi. Our Faculty Mentor, Professor C P Joshi
welcomed all the guests to the event. The event
also had a few of SIMSR's reputed alumni as
guests in the audience. The chief patron of the
event being Prof. C P Joshi, sir gave a welcome
address to the audience and the guests.
The event started with the presentation of Mr. Rohit
Pandya, General Manager, ECGC. He introduced
us to the country risks by explaining how even
stable countries like USA pose risk during an
economic bubble burst. He illustrated the
parameters used to assess any country's risk and
establish the rating. Mr. Pandya emphasized on the
importance of ECGC's approval for risk coverage
for Indian export-import companies. He clarified
doubts like whether ratings established by ECGC
are region specific, periodic or trigger specific. He
also put into perspective that ECGC sometimes
consider rating based on Indian perspective
overruling other external ratings.
Next speaker, Mr. Rahul Kumar is our alumnus and
is currently working at Honeywell Inc as
International Risk Manager. The subject matter of
his presentation reinforced the need of
International Risk Management. He shared the
importance of Risk Management for a company

like Honeywell, which is the global technology
leader in Energy Efficiency. Honeywell Inc has
operations in risky countries of middle-east. He
pointed out the importance of employee assurance
for the reputation of a business and its market
position.
Mr. J. K. Panday, General Manager of Foreign
Exchange Department, RBI, emphasized the role
of RBI being the central bank of India. He talked
about RBI policies regarding exchange rate
management. Mr. Pandey also discussed the
advantages and challenges faced in maintaining
foreign reserves. The session was interactive as a
lot of questions, regarding too big to fail Banks,
Bitcoin, sovereign wealth funds etc, were
answered. His insights on monetary policies
busted popular notions and media interpretations
of RBI operations and borrowing.
Our fourth speaker Mr. Rohit Bhatia, Senior
General Manager at Mahindra & Mahindra,
elaborated extensively on Strategic Sourcing and
Global SCM. Global sourcing risks like currency
fluctuation and political risks were discussed by the
speaker. He also gave a brief insight in Global
strategies of Mahindra & Mahindra and also
challenges faced by the Company in Chinese
market. Mr. Bhatia also shared his experience in
dealing with challenges of local networks as part of
global sourcing.
Students interacted with the industry panelists and
discussed various other topics in a brief Questionand-Answer session. Our Faculty MentorIBS@SIMSR, Prof C. P. Joshi closed the
magnificent event with the vote of thanks.
