Star launches unique
POS printer with
five Interfaces and
Multiple Peripheral
Hub functionality
At Restaurant and Bar Tech Live
2018, Star Micronics demonstrated
its latest launch of the first POS
printer with 5 traditional and unique
interfaces with multiple peripheral
hub functionality. Star was joined by
a number of software and payment
partners including AccentPOS,
Emperium POS, iZettle and
TouchBistro.
Ever mindful that hospitality ven-
ues are looking for sustainability, Star
offers the mC-Print series with 80mm
and 58mm print width models. For
tablet POS with multiple USB periph-
eral control, Star’s new and unique
TSP654II CloudPRNT-POS printer
effectively responds to provide a ver-
satile and cost-effective solution.
Star’s latest product launch fully
demonstrates how it understands
the needs of effective hardware in a
challenging multichannel world. The
mC-Print printers offer not only the
unique functionality of five interfaces
and multiple peripheral support but
connectivity for the restaurateur’s
transitional journey from tradition-
al EPOS to cloud-based POS. They
provide today’s traditional interfaces,
USB and Ethernet, as well as tomor-
row’s cloud connectivity in order to
meet the needs of a multichannel
environment.
With a print speed up to 250mm/
second, the printers can feature all of
the following interfaces in one model:
Ethernet LAN; Bluetooth (MFi); tradi-
tional USB; lightning USB (data and
charge USB for iOS) and CloudPRNT
as well as Hub functionality for more
than one peripheral. n
8 KIOSK solutions
Zytronic and Cryptera first with secure PIN
entry through large format touchscreens
Zytronic is releasing
a new version of its
rugged, customised
touchscreens, which
is now available to
support secure PIN
entry applications via
their development
partner, Cryptera.
The new PCI PTS (PIN
Transaction Security)
compliant product, named
CryptoTouch Unattended has
been co-developed with Cryptera.
Cryptera CryptoTouch Unattended
is available in any design of Zytronic
touch sensors between 10 and 24in
diagonal, enabling authenticated
payments to be handled completely
via the touchscreen in ATMs, kiosks
and other payment terminals without
the need for a separate encrypting
mechanical PIN pad (EPP). The
solution includes an Encrypted
Touch Controller and a Secure Touch
sensor purpose designed to meet
PCI 3.x and EMV requirements.
CryptoTouch Unattended links with
a Secure Chip and PIN
or Contactless Card
Reader in order to allow
support for offline PIN
verification. CryptoTouch
Unattended and
Zytronic touchscreens
have already been
successfully used
together in ATMs for a
European bank.
Commenting,
Brian Schleisner, Vice
President Sales and Marketing,
Cryptera A/S said: “The increasing
use of touchscreens as the main user
interface in unattended transactions
has created a need to allow sensitive
information to be entered securely on
the screen. Zytronic and Cryptera have
worked together to create a solution
that addresses this need, simplifying
the design of unattended kiosks, ticket
machines, car park payment terminals
and ATMs.” He continued, “Zytronic
PCT touch screens are currently the
only screens of this size integrated with
CryptoTouch technology.” n
The Boris Bikes of phone chargers launch in
London to help you to stay connected
London-based company ChargedUp is taking the bike sharing model and
bringing it to mobile phone charging. The company has developed a network
of vending stations where, for a small fee, users can borrow portable battery
banks, use them for as long as they need and then return them to a station
of their choosing.
You can locate a station using the ChargedUp app and then simply scan
the QR code to release a battery. Each battery can charge a phone twice and
comes with connector cables for both iPhone and Android.
The entire ChargedUp network runs on 100% green energy, made
possible by a partnership with Ecotricity. ChargedUp aims to be the go-to
solution for Londoners who constantly find themselves low on battery.
ChargedUp aims to be in over 1000 venues in London by the end of 2018
and will expand beyond the capital in early 2019. The company is looking
to work Pret-A-Manger, TFL and Wetherspoons to ensure you can borrow a
battery on every high street in the UK. n
