Rhodes was part of the winning crew in the 8 Metre Class at the 1908 London Olympic Sailing Regatta, on a yacht called Cobweb. One of his brothers- in-law, Blair Cochrane, was the owner and helmsman of Cobweb and another brother-in-law, Cecil Sutton, was also a member of the crew. Despite the yacht winning the Class, only the helmsman, Blair Cochrane, was awarded a gold medal, the crew were awarded silver medals. It was as the cox with the Leander VIII that he won a gold medal. The British were represented by the Leander Club and New College (Oxford).
