Rhodes was part of the winning crew
in the 8 Metre Class at the 1908 London
Olympic Sailing Regatta, on a yacht
called Cobweb. One of his brothers-
in-law, Blair Cochrane, was the owner
and helmsman of Cobweb and another
brother-in-law, Cecil Sutton, was also
a member of the crew.
Despite the yacht winning the Class,
only the helmsman, Blair Cochrane,
was awarded a gold medal, the crew
were awarded silver medals.
It was as the cox with the Leander VIII
that he won a gold medal. The British
were represented by the Leander Club
and New College (Oxford).
The Stockholm Olympic Games was
the last occasion on which the gold
medals were made of solid gold.
