Fostering the Pursuit of Excellence

Scholarships and bursary opportunities at King’ s.
The King’ s Scholarships and Bursary programme is designed to foster the pursuit of excellence and to ensure a wide cross-section of entry, reflecting New Zealand society as a whole. Scholarships and bursaries are available each year, largely for those who would not otherwise be able to attend the College and also for outstanding all-round individuals.
This year we have over 130 + students who have been awarded a bursary or scholarship to the College. The King’ s College Scholarship and Bursary programme is supported by: King’ s College Foundation; King’ s College Old Collegians’ Association( KCOCA); Thanksgiving Trust( Endeavour Scholarships); King’ s College Board of Governors; an anonymous donor( Mentor Scholarships); JAB Hellaby Trust; Joyce Walker Foundation; Rugby Supporters’ Club; a bequest from Lilian Alexander Stride; Phil Ryall; George Mason; Sir James Wallace; Scott Clark and his mother Heather Anderson; the Government Aspire Scheme; and memorial scholarships and bursaries set up in memory of Roger Bartley( in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Otahuhu), William Thode( in conjunction with the family and friends of William Thode), and James Webster( in conjunction with the family of James Webster).
For 2014 the following scholarships and bursaries will be awarded:
FOR BOYS:
• Four Academic Scholarships for first year students based on the College’ s Scholarship exams to be held in May 2013
• Four Endeavour Scholarships for Maori and Pacific Island students entering King’ s School in Year 7
• One Music Scholarship for a candidate with proficiency( Grade 4 or better) in one or more instruments
• Lilian Alexander Stride Bursary for a boy entering the College in Year 9 from King’ s School
• James Wallace Choral Scholarship for a Year 11 or 12 choral musician with significant talent to fulfil his potential
Year 13 Endeavour Scholarship Students, Jonathan Aoina, Faleola Faingata’ a, Tepaki Hui and Joshua Ioane
• James Webster Memorial Scholarship for a good all round boarder entering Year 9
• Peter Wilson Scholarship for boarding to a good all round boy entering Year 9
• Two further Boarding Bursaries for good all round students
• LV Bruce Bursary for sons of Old Collegians
• Roger Bartley Memorial Scholarship for a male student preferably resident in South Auckland
• Sports Bursaries may be available for students with exceptional all-round ability
FOR GIRLS:
• One Music Scholarship for a candidate with proficiency in at least two instruments and at least Grade 7 level in her principal instrument
• KCOCA Chapel Music Scholarship for a Year 12 student who is an outstanding musician and who will make a significant contribution to the life of the Chapel.
• Taylor Bursary for a day girl entering the College in Year 12 with strong all-round ability
• Middlemore Boarding Bursary for a Year 12 student with strong all-round ability
• Sports Bursaries may be available for students with exceptional all-round ability
• KCOCA Gibbons Award for a Year 12 student with strong all-round ability with at least one outstanding attribute
• Headmaster’ s Bursary for all-rounders, supported by the KCOCA, for a Year 12 student with strong all-round ability and at least one outstanding attribute.
