KING’ S SPORT

Sherratt, Luke Paterson, Ben Ganley and Cox Felix Tordeich, and the Girls’ U18 coxed Quad of Lydia Poole, Ashlee Dorotich, Ellie Richards, Sophie Fowler and Cox Nick Yan. In B finals, the U15 double of Adam Drake, Tom Weatherall and the Boys U16 quad of, Matt Ganley, Harry Clark, Harry Gill, Ben
Mules were also winners. The U15B Double placed 3rd, and the Boys’ U17 Double won the C grade final.
At the North Island Secondary Schools Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro, highlights were the two North Island titles in girls events with Lydia Poole winning the Girls’ U17 singles A title and the Girls’ U18 Quad of Lydia Poole, Ashley Doratich, Ellie Richards, Sophie Fowler with Cox Nick Yan winning their A championship final. The College’ s other best result was a third place for the Boys’ U17 quad of James Cochram, Simon Reeves, Nick Dougherty, Charles Benedek Rooney and Cox Felix Tordich.
Most recently at the Maadi Cup Rowing Regatta at Lake Karapiro, eight King’ s crews made it into A finals( top eight crews in NZ) with the highlight being the performance of the Boys’ U17 Quad who won their National title race by a large margin. Congratulations go to Luke Paterson, Henry Fitzgerald, Matt O’ Halloran, Ben Ganley and Cox Felix Tordeich for bringing home the gold.

At the annual College swimming sports, the following individual record breakers were: Junior 50m Breaststroke- Jia Hao Wu( Major)- 36.15 Junior 50m Backstroke- Fraser Brodie- 31.2 Junior 50m Butterfly- Fraser Brodie- 30.41 Junior 50m Freestyle- Fraser Brodie- 27.24 Senior 50 m freestyle- Emerson Tamura-Paki- 24.65 record

TOUCH
The King’ s College Senior Touch team ended the term by winning the Auckland Regional Touch Tournament and maintaining an unbeaten record for the season. In round-robin play, King’ s defeated Sacred Heart College 9-5, Wesley College 8-0 and Auckland Grammar School 8-7, to progress to a semi-final with St Peter’ s College, which the team won 9-6 to progress to a final with the favourites for the tournament, St Kentigern College. Down 4-2 at the half time break, King’ s was more composed in the 2nd half and with a final siege, won 8-7.
Moment of the match was Luke Reed intercepting a pass on the King’ s line, sprinting 60m before having 3 defenders slowly closing him down, only to launch a 30m pass into the safe hands of Trent
Tipene to fly over in the corner. This victory ensures qualification for Nationals, to be held in December at Bruce Pulman Park, Ardmore.
The winning squad was: Josh Ioane( Captain) Connor Brooke Cowden, Luke Reed, Jonah Lowe, Teariki Ben-Nicholas, Matt Kennelly, Te Raukura Hawke, Jonah Refiti, Mitchell Karpik, Ashley Tuia, Moses Puru, Trent Tipene, Conor Maddix-Wikaira. Injured: Marzellus Salaivao.

Sports News in Brief

Congratulations to the following King’ s students who are excelling in their chosen sport.
NETBALL Brenagan Salt-Bernard, who has been selected for the U19 Pacifika Secondary Schools netball team to play in an International Tournament in Rotorua in late May.
WAKE BOARDING Francesco Hanson, who recently won the NZ U15 Wake Board championships and has been short-listed for the New Zealand team for the World Championships in Korea in August.
POLOCROSSE Sebastian McCracken, who at the conclusion of the New Zealand Polocrosse National Championships was awarded a Scholarship to travel to Australia in July to compete in a major tournament and also receive intensive coaching by Australian coaches.
TRAMPOLINE At the Australian Youth Olympics over the holidays Dylan Schmidt won the silver medal when he was narrowly beaten into 2nd place by a Chinese competitor with another Chinese boy a distant 3rd.
HOCKEY Four recent Old Collegians were named in the junior Black Sticks in the Junior World cup qualifier played in March on the Gold Coast. They are Kim Kingston, Jared Panchia, Ben Radovonich and Michael Richie.
SAILING The King’ s team of JJ Marie, Angus McKenzie, Leo Pagani, Harry Mander, Nick Jacobi, Rahul Makam, Henry Haslett, who at the Auckland Teams Sailing Regatta, sailed against nine other Auckland School teams and after the first day King’ s were placed 1st but after the 2nd day of racing King’ s eventually ended the regatta 3rd equal. The team now looks forward to the National Championships to be held in Taupo.
