As we continued to read and discuss the pieces , we recognized a certain selflessness to the narratives . Often , characters were helping a friend or a family member get through difficult times or an adverse situation . This is truly a testament to the values and the mindset that Saint David ’ s instills within us students from an early age . Community and togetherness were always at the center of learning . Each grade of approximately 40 students is a family in itself , and as the boys grow they will continue to support one another and serve as shoulders to lean on through the good and the bad .
We want to take this moment to celebrate the hard work and the profound thought that the students put forth on this project . They are mature and skilled far beyond their years and they will continue to shine , as Saint David ’ s boys do , wherever their journeys lead them . Thank you to the teachers for your consistent support and dedication to your students ; their work is a product of their experiences and the environments they are immersed in each day . And to the Saint David ’ s community , thank you for allowing Josh and me to participate in this year ’ s Obelisk curation . • obelisk 2023
Summer ’ s Baptism
I leisurely walk out the back door
A towel draped around my neck The warm sun hits my skin Like a fire that ’ s burned slowly Since the beginning of time
I stroll toward the gate Open the weathered latch And rush inside Greeted by the crisp blue water A simultaneous invitation and initiation
Summer is a thing that washes over you And brings you back to life

They wandered the avenues of Paris , Two circus side-shows Laughing in the rain , Savoring the moment . For they knew
The long September days are hard on hearts , The merry November mornings send people far and wide ,
Far enough to watch the magician down the lane With the twinkle in his eye ;
Far enough to fly without a parachute But be not afraid at all ;
Far enough to forget one summer love And leave a fool in the rain ;
And so she left , to her cozy little cottage , Leaving him a fool in the rain .
