Aviation Minneapolis-St . Paul International Airport
Kimley-Horn is serving as the on-call engineering consultant for all landside development projects at the Minneapolis-St . Paul International Airport . Through our role as general landside consultant to the Metropolitan Airports Commission ( MAC ), we have been asked to solve a number of complex roadway , and parking related challenges .
Kimley-Horn has led a team of eight consultants for the completion of the preliminary and final design of transportation related improvements to the Humphrey terminal . These improvements include the expansion of the Humphrey campus parking facility ( orange ramp ). Complex challenges faced by the Kimley-Horn design team have included integrating a second parking structure into the existing roadway network ; evaluating parking priorities and assignment of parking locations for various functions ; construction staging ; construction coordination with the Metropolitan Transit Operations ( MTO ) around the active light rail line ; and approximately $ 1.5 million of improvements to the Humphrey station . Kimley-Horn also led the Silver Ramp parking expansion program , which was honored in 2021 with a Grand Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies ( ACEC ). The project expanded public parking by 5,000 stalls , provided rental car agencies with an expanded facility , and was constructed in the heart of the Terminal 1 campus – one of the busiest terminals in North America .
