DTW runways are a familiar challenge for Kimley-Horn . Recent projects at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport include reconstruction of the existing Runway 3R-21L , parallel Taxiway W and 16 connector taxiways within 220 feet of the runway centerline , including portions of the intersecting cross wind runways 9L-27R and 9R-27L ; planning and engineering services for the reconstruction of Runway 4R / 22L and associated taxiways ; 3L-21R and associated taxiways , including a full-depth reconstruction of one of the primary departure runways and a parallel taxiway in concrete in one construction season ( and winner of the Sustainability Envision Gold Award ); and a comprehensive pavement management system on five runways and the associated taxiway networks . The firm ’ s responsibilities included full runway reconstruction and mitigation of alkali silica reaction ( ASR ) commonly found in the local fine aggregates . Kimley-Horn is also currently providing planning , design , and construction phase support for the new Centralized Deicing Facility and Runway 21R Hold Bay .
